Explore Vesterålen and Lofoten by Bike

How to travel to Sortland (not included):
- Flight flight to Stokmarknes. Airport bus/taxi from Stokmarknes to Sortland.
- Flight to Narvik / Harstad Evenes Airport and airport bus to Sortland.

Accommodation at Thon Partner Hotel Sortland.

The tour goes through slightly hilly terrain, partly along the fjord and partly inland. Along the way, you cycle through the town of Myre, which is the administrative center in Øksnes municipality. The last 10 kilometres of today's stage are on a narrow dirt road that follows a strip of land between the ocean and the steep mountainsides.

Accommodation at Holmvik Brygge

We recommend a hike along Dronningruta (The Queen's Route) between Nyksund and Stø. The route is named after Queen Sonja of Norway who fell in love with the trail and the landscapes when she was here in 1994. The route was voted Norway's most beautiful hike in 2012.

Accommodation at Holmvik Brygge

This is a long and partly demanding stage. Most of the day, you cycle in slightly hilly terrain, except for a long climb towards the Ryggedal tunnel and a slight climb through the 1600 meter-long-tunnel. Fortunately, you are rewarded with an equally long downhill on the other side.

To shorten today's stage, we recommend going by boat from Myre to Skjellfjord. Unfortunately, the boat will not take you past the tunnel. The bike tour from Skjellfjord to Kråkberget is 21 km.

Accommodation and dinner at Fjordcamp.

Short and easy day trip, but we recommend a detour to Nykvåg on Langøya island, 12 km each way. If you continue all the way to Hovden, the detour will be 17 km each way.

Accommodation and dinner at Hotell Regine

We recommend a bike tour, via Vinje, 30 km. In Vinje there is a small center and a village museum. At the far end of the headland outside the museum is one of the region's finest sculptures - the 4.3 meters high 'The Man from the Sea'.

Some suggestions:
- 2 hr guided kayak trip from Svolvær (contact us for booking)
- Visit the fishing village Kabelvåg and the Lofoten Cathedral.
- Bike trip to the picturesque Fishing Village, Henningsvær (48 km round trip).
- Hike one of the mountains close to Svolvær.
- Bike the northern part of Austvågøy (97 km round trip)

Accommodation Thon Hotel Lofoten (superior room).

Easy day trip with some traffic on the middle sestion. A tunnel just before the exit to Henningsvær.
Possible detours along the way:
- Henningsvær (Picturesque Fishing Village) - 18 km
- Brenna (Bike along the fjord/ocean front) - 23 km

This is the only night you stay at the west coast, so you might see the midnight sun. It is a nice midnight sun activity to hike the top of Hoven (362 m), with a wonderful view of the area you have been cycling today. From here you can also see the islands of Vesterålen.

Accommodation and dinner at Lofoten Links Lodges (lodge or farm house, some with shared bathroom)
While here, you also have the option of playing golf at the world-class golf course. Tee time must be pre-booked.

Longer day trip in relatively flat terrain. Possible to avoid the main road most of the day.
Possible detours along the way:
- Stamsund and Steine (Fishing Villages) - 14 km
- Sennesvika and Ramsvika (Great views) - 12 km

Accommodation at Scandic Leknes Lofoten (basic hotel).

Staying in Leknes gives you easy access to some of Lofoten’s most stunning beaches and scenic spots, making it a perfect base for exploring the region.

Some suggestions:
- Bike to Uttakleiv and Haukland beaches, the most photographed beach in Lofoten. With the horizon open to the west and north, Uttakleiv is a good location to see the Midnight sun (27 km round trip).
- Bike to Unstad beach, Lofoten’s most popular surfing destination (42 km round trip).
- Visit the Lofotr Viking Museum in Borg featuring a copy of the largest Viking-era house ever found (28 km round trip).
- Bike to Eggum and visit the rocky coastline past the village (50 km round trip).

Accommodation at Scandic Leknes Lofoten (basic hotel).

- Bike Leknes - Kremmervika, 12 km
- Bicycle ferry from Kremmervika, departure at 10:00 or 12:00 We recommend spending some time in Nusfjord. This is one of the oldest and best-preserved fishing villages in Lofoten, located in scenic surroundings encircled by steep mountains.
- Bike Nusfjord - Reine, 41 km. You bike most of the distance on E10, with some traffic. There are a few tunnels, but you can bike on the old road outside the tunnels. 

Accommodation and dinner at Reine Rorbuer (shared bathroom/room sizes vary/bunk beds in some rooms)

Some suggestions:
- Day trip to the small village of Å, at the end of the road E10 (20 km round trip).
- Take a fjord cruise in Kjerkfjorden, walking over to the wonderful beach, Bunesstranda. It is also possible to hike the summit of Helvetestinden (the mountain of Hell), (513 m).
- You can also join adventures like sea rafting, sea fishing or kayak trips in Reine.

- Bus from Reine to Moskenes. Ferry from Moskenes to Bodø. Flight from Bodø Airport.
- Bus to Leknes or Svolvær and flight from Leknes airport or Svolvær airport.
- Arctic Bus Route to Svolvær/Tromsø
