Experience the quiet magic of Norway’s fjords in winter. This unique journey combines scenic train rides, a cozy fjord-side stay, and winter adventures — far from the summer crowds.

Travel by train from Oslo to Flåm on one of the world’s most spectacular rail journeys. The Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana) takes you from the high mountain plateau at Myrdal down to the Aurlandsfjord, passing frozen waterfalls, steep valleys, and snow-covered peaks along the way.

Spend two nights in Flåm at a high-quality hotel, where you can relax and enjoy warm hospitality surrounded by dramatic winter landscapes. Your stay includes a guided snowshoe walk with breathtaking fjord views — a peaceful way to explore nature’s beauty in its most tranquil season.

A highlight of the trip is a fjord cruise from Flåm to Gudvangen, gliding between towering cliffs and icy waterfalls through the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord. In Gudvangen, visit the Viking Valley, where history comes alive in an authentic Viking village. From here, your journey continues by bus and train to Bergen, the gateway to the fjords.

This winter fjord tour can easily be done in either direction between Oslo and Bergen, and as a detour along your Norway journey. We can tailor your trip with extra nights in Flåm, or add hotel stays in Oslo and Bergen upon request.

Discover the fjords at their most peaceful — wrapped in snow, silence, and beauty.

Nærøyfjorden

Nærøyfjord, the most beautiful and wildest of the side arms of the Sognefjord, is on UNESCO's World Heritage list.

Small farms that cling to the hillside. The fjord is 17 km long and at its narrowest it is 250 m wide. A boat trip through the Nærøyfjord is one of the most dramatic fjord trips in Europe.

At Bakkasundet the fjord is only 250 meters wide, while the mountains in the area stretch a full 1,761 meters above sea level. At the narrowest point, the greatest depth is only 12 metres, while the fjord widens out and goes down to 75 meters deep so that the innermost part forms a stream. The fjord can freeze over in cold winters.
