In beautiful landscape, on this self-guided hike in Jotunheimen, you will explore some of the best hiking trails in the area. Stunning scenery, rich flora, traditional accommodation and local food is just some of the highlights. With five overnight stays in Jotunheimen, you will have plenty of time to explore and enjoy what the National Park has to offer. As the tour is self-guided, you can go at your own pace and take breaks and detours when you want.
After an overnight stay in Oslo, a bus ride awaits to Bygdin Høifjellhotell, where you will spend two nights. The hotel has a beautiful location by the water, surrounded by green-clad mountains and with several opportunities for short or longer hikes nearby.
The trip continues by boat on the idyllic lake Bygdin with the surrounding mountains reflecting in the water. After a hike through the Svartdalen valley with a good view of several 2000-meter peaks, you arrive at Gjendebu. This is the oldest cabin of the Norwegian Trekking Association, located in the middle of the forest and mountains at 995 meters above sea level, and well-known for its good local food. The surroundings offer a rich flora and fauna, peaks and glaciers, and the emerald green Gjende lake right nearby. With two nights here, you have the opportunity to hike the famous Gjendetunga with a beautiful view of the cabin, the lake, and the mountain massif you are in.
From Gjendebu, you continue between the lakes Bygdin and Gjende, through valley Veslådalen to the historic Eidsbugarden. Here you stay at the DNT cabin Fondsbu, well known for its service, good atmosphere, and tasty local food.
From Eidsbugarden, you take the bus to Flåm, the gateway to Fjord Norway. From here, we have included a boat trip on the Sognefjord, arriving in central Bergen. During the 5-hour boat trip, you can relax and enjoy nature from the sun deck or from the salon with large panoramic windows. The trip ends with an overnight stay right by the dock in Bergen, and you can explore Bryggen, Fløyen, and other attractions the city has to offer.
This entire tour is self-guided, meaning that we have created the itinerary and made all the arrangements for you, so you can enjoy the natural experiences at your own pace along the way. The tour can be booked by solo travelers or groups, and the departure dates are flexible.

The local member associations of DNT operate 550 cabins across the country, mark routes and ski tracks. Together they maintain a network of about 22,000 km of marked foot trails and about 7000 km of branch-marked ski tracks. DNT activities are based on extensive volunteer work. Each year, volunteers work in total more than 800,000 hours. In southern Norway, the member associations have large staffed lodges and most other cabins are self-service. In Northern Norway, the member associations have only no-service cabins.
