Walking the Explore Rondane Route

Walking the Explore Rondane Route is a multi-day adventure on well marked trails. The terrain is gentle and you are surrounded by grand landscapes and dramatic mountains.  An excellent opportunity to introduce children and first-time hikers to the mountains.

At Høvringen, near Rondane National Park, you can hike between the mountain lodges Høvringen Fjellstue, Smuksjøseter Fjellstue and Putten Seter, and have your luggage transported from one lodge to the next. A perfect multi-day walk for anyone seeking the tranquility of the mountains without overly long and strenuous stages. The terrain is gentle, the trails are well-marked, and you are surrounded by grand landscapes and dramatic mountains. You are likely to be joined by native birds for much of your hike – listen for the call of grouse and wild animals such as reindeer, moose, and fox.

This self-guided walk is a great alternative to a fully guided tour. Rondane and the Rondane massif are well-known and beloved hiking areas, and many discover their love for the mountains here. 

With stages of 6 – 12 kilometers a day, there are many opportunities to extend the hikes if you would like a longer walk. The hosts at the mountain lodges are very familiar with the area and can provide you with the best hiking options tailored to the weather conditions and your preferences. Your luggage is transported for you, so you only need to carry a light daypack.

The hosts will welcome you into the comfort of their lodge with ready-made-beds and a delicious three-course dinner based on local ingredients, at the end of the day. Accommodation is available in family- or double rooms with a private bathroom. Høvringen offers many great hiking opportunities, so feel free to add an extra night to your stay.
